The roots of the Iroko tree go deep into the soil of Africa. The tree stands tall and strong against the African sky. Our sculpture, our architecture, our masks and our drums come from this tree and are permeated by its spirit. Through the Iroko tree, our culture is rooted in the soil of our land and from these roots it derives its strength.

IROKO Theatre Company was formed primarily to nurture and uphold this culture.

IROKO is a theatre-in-education Company that works mainly in schools, colleges, libraries, community centres, hospitals, young offenders' institutes, etc.

The Company uses interactive performances and/or workshops in the art of oral storytelling, drama, music and dance to help educate and enhance the creative potential, self-confidence and self-esteem of children and young people from varied backgrounds and abilities.

IROKO also uses traditional African theatre art forms to explore social issues that are of interest to children and young people and in doing so help them to experience new cultures and art forms.

IROKO is available for cultural events such as festivals and corporate functions too.

If you are interested in booking IROKO, please use one of the methods detailed on our contact page to get in touch.
